The customer contacted NEFAB in Poland when they needed a new packaging for boosters. The existing packaging consisted of thermoformed trays that held six boosters each and an outer packaging that fitted three trays. They now wanted to fit eight boosters in one tray and still be able to place three trays in the existing outer packaging.
NEFAB Packaging Development Centre, engineers from the chosen supplier of thermoformed trays, and engineers from the customer cooperated in the design work. 3D designs and a number of prototypes were made to be certain that NEFAB could supply the tray that the customer wanted.
Since three companies before NEFAB had not been able to design a tray for eight boosters, fitting into the existing outer packaging, NEFAB's design capabilities was the primary reason why their solution was chosen.
The eight booster tray designed by NEFAB was adjusted with colour stripes on one side and six hand holes to simplify the handling. It was also equipped with holes in the bottom for evacuation of excess water.
Customer Benefits from Nefab Packaging
The customer benefited from monetary savings the day the new tray was implemented. It is now possible to pack 24 boosters per outer packaging compared to 18 boosters with the old tray. There is no need to explain that this brings cost savings related to transportation and handling for the customer.
