The customer is a manufacturer of vehicle power and data networks. They produce electrical distribution system (EDS) in Thailand and shipped them a factory in Belgium for assembly. The factory received fifteen 40' containers weekly, each containing 48 cardboard boxes, a total of 36,000 cardboard boxes. Their end customer took care of the recycling in Belgium and did not charge
them any extra for this service. The packaging system was not cost-effective for either
them or their customer. Nefab was approached to provide an improved solution.
Nefab performed a RECO™ analysis on the flow from Thailand to Belgium to establish the most cost-effective solution. Effort was put into designing a suitable box with concern to both the customer loading in Thailand and their customer unloading in Belgium. The result was a NEFAB RePak L solution with dividers and an opening on the side of the box.
Customer Benefits from Nefab Packaging
By changing the packaging system from cardboard boxes to NEFAB RePak L reusable system, the customer was able to realise large cost savings. The payback time on the purchase of reusable boxes was about 1.5 years. New solution improves transport container space utilization by 44 %.
In addition, the customer could now show their customer the money saved for them by eliminating the need for recycling of the cardboard
.
