To answer this question without having details of your products or method of shipment is difficult… but in general some examples follow:
Air freight is charged by weight or cube. In knowing this, you can customize your packaging to the best option. Usually when we design export packaging which we know is being shipped by air,
reducing the weight of the package while maintaining its integrity is job #1. For more information, visit Airfreight Savings for packaging.
When we look at shipments going by truck, the key here is
optimizing both the transport and the OD dimensions of your packaging. Because certain packaging designs can reduce the OD of your individual package, you can then place more goods in the same trailer… just from reducing your DIM. Optimizing trucks is easy when you allow certain software programs on the market to help you. Sure it’s not hard when all your products have the same pallet footprint and height, but for those with multiple packages of all sorts of weight and sizes, it would be a strong investment.
Since
sustainability is a big initiative for many companies today, researching ‘green’ materials might be an area of interest to ensure the entire solution is recyclable or biodegradable depending on the customer’s requirements. When all things are equal, you should always know the materials in the market which offers sustainability without comprising the packaging’s integrity.
Avoid over-packing… first of all it's not good for the environment, it’s not good for the end receiver to have waste taking up valuable warehouse space, and it’s not good on the wallet for the initial buyer. Use the proper materials in the market which offer the protection needed. Think twice before you wrap and wrap a product thinking you’re avoiding moisture as an example. In this case you may be causing more moisture than avoiding. If you don’t know what a proper packaging design including materials should be… we can help.
When we consider handling,
huge savings can be achieved when we understand how our customer both pack and unpack the goods from their packaging. This enables us to facilitate the package to meet their handling requirements and reduce unnecessary time in the packing process. Also when it comes to handling, knowing how it will be moved around within the warehouse allows us to ensure the pallet will meet all abuse to ensure that the packaging itself isn't damaged.
All in all, Nefab has been in business for over 60 years. We have packaging development centers in over 6 countries that focus on reducing customers’ total costs while minimizing their environmental impact. Our selling style is relaxed only because if we can help; we will. If we can’t, we’ll also be the first one to tell you that you’re doing a great job.
We look forward to hearing from you!
