The initiative for a
packaging company to go green is a huge step.
Nefab continues to make progress toward a greener society, and has dedicated many resources to do just this.
Packaging performs a positive environmental service:
Modern society is based on increase specialization and exchange of goods and services over increasingly long distances. The goods produced must be able to be transported and stored without undue resource expenditure. In this respect, packaging renders a valuable environmental service. First and foremost, by protecting the packaged product from damage during transport and storage. Secondly, by preventing any impact on the environment from harmful emissions. Accordingly, an environmentally sustainable society calls for high-quality packaging.
Environmental demands on packaging companies:
Packaging introduced in the market must, in addition to all that has been stated, fulfill a number of other fundamental requirements:
- The packaging shall be fabricated using as little material as possible to prevent from unnecssary waste, as well as unnecessary impact to the environment in connection with transport.
- The packaging shall not be fabricated using toxic chemicals that can reach the environment.
- The packaging shall not be contaminated with harmful insects.
- The packaging shall be 100% recyclable.
- Reusable packaging should be used where the logistical situation permits.
In line with these requirements, a number of Group companies, to varying degrees, have systems for developing environmentally friendly packaging.
Development program for suppliers:
To further strengthen the environment quality of
Nefab's sub-suppliers and cooperation partners a model for supplier evaluation has been developed. In addition to environmental matters, the program also addresses quality, financial, delivery and social-responsibility issues.
