Corrugated boxes are widely used in the transport packaging world. The corrugated industry has a strong focus on R&D attempting to optimize strength vs. weight ratio.
Corrugated boxes are offered in many ways, from standard box sizes and styles to completely customizable and is one of the only packaging materials that can be cut and folded to various shapes and sizes. Arguably one of the most dynamic packaging solutions available corrugated offers many benefits to consumers.
Benefits of corrugated boxes:
- Great performances, when choosing the appropriate style/type
- Extremely lightweight
- Offers shock absorption properties
- Versatile, used in many industries
- Saves space, delivered flat
- Completely recyclable and easy to dispose of
- Low purchase costs vs. alternative transport packaging products
To give the corrugated boxes their unique characteristics, some key features need to be taken into consideration including design, paper quality and type of flute.

Double wall boxes
Double wall boxes are made out of two facings, two corrugated flutes and an inner liner in between (five layers of paper in total). The most commonly used board material is the BC-flute, which consists of one B-flute and one C-flute.
Used for heavy duty performance. Three layers of flutes. The triple wall material is classified according to the same system as for double wall boxes; for example BCB.
Very simplistic type of corrugated standard, which fold simply into a four-sided box. Depending on performance required, the top/bottom flaps are available in different designs. Can be taped, glued or stapled to close.
By die-cut technique, special sizes, designs (Fefco styles) can be achieved. This offers endless opportunities for customisation. Fefco styles offer a huge variety of corrugated boxes to meet requirements of almost any application. Almost any shape or style of box to be manufactured by die-cutting.
To protect exposed corners and edges of palletised goods or products from damages during transit and packing. Edgeboards consist of several laminated layers of strong paperboard. Edgeboards can be delivered in customised lengths and strengths. They can also come with "humidity resistance treatment".
