Steel Rack Solution for Transport to Mines

A global industrial equipment manufacturer improved the movement of heavy components between service facilities and operating sites through coordinated engineering, local execution, and a more reliable global supply chain setup.

The Challenge: Combining Local Supply with Global Expertise

To support a growing global repair program, the customer needed customized steel racks to air freight large, heavy items between their North American facility and mining installations worldwide.

Initially, they relied on a small local fabricator to supply these racks. While the supplier could build basic structures, they did not offer the engineering capabilities required to handle the complexity of heavy mining equipment. The customer needed a partner who could look at the entire supply chain to reduce total logistics costs and environmental impact.

Furthermore, they required rigorous project management, dedicated engineering analysis, and strict adherence to their corporate branding, including precise color matching and specific drawing template, which their current supplier was not able to support.

Nefab's Solution: Returnable Steel Rack Solution with Global Engineering Support

To resolve this, we introduced a fully customized, returnable steel rack solution backed by dedicated project management and global engineering support. Rather than just acting as a manufacturer, we formed a specialized project team consisting of sales, engineering, and sourcing experts to collaborate directly with the customer.

We engineered professional, highly durable returnable steel racks tailored specifically for air freighting their heavy components. We also sourced and partnered with an approved, right-sized local manufacturing facility capable of meeting the rigorous quality and volume requirements of the project.

Because the customer had a tight timeline and complex design needs, we leveraged our global engineering network. Our Canadian team focused on structural design and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) testing to validate safety and durability. Meanwhile, our engineering team in India handled the detailed drafting, executing all drawings perfectly on the customer's specific corporate templates.

Once the designs were finalized and validated, the steel racks were produced at the local manufacturing facility. Our team meticulously inspected every single piece before delivering it directly to the customer, ensuring 100% compliance with their strict corporate branding guidelines and color codes.

"Partnering with a team that offers both deep engineering expertise and dedicated project management allowed us to secure a returnable packaging solution that protects our parts, reflects our brand, and optimizes our global supply chain."

Results: Supporting Global Repair Operations

By replacing an inadequate local supplier with a comprehensive engineering and project management solution, the customer transformed a supply chain bottleneck into a streamlined operation.

Key outcomes included:

  • 37 unique engineered designs successfully created and validated for heavy transport.
  • Standardized packaging solutions established, allowing the customer to easily replicate designs for future projects.
  • Professional brand compliance, ensuring every rack matched the customer’s global visual standards.
  • Over 98% of the initial supply completed on schedule, providing immediate relief to their aftermarket center.

Complex, heavy-duty logistics require more than just strong materials; they require intelligent engineering and seamless project management. By designing with the entire supply chain in mind, you can lower total costs, reduce environmental impact, and guarantee that your products travel safely across the globe.

Why Secure Server Rack Logistics Are Now Critical to AI Data Centers

Shipping server racks safely at scale depends on three factors: engineered packaging, standardized handling, and supply chain visibility. Missing one increases the risk of damage, delays, and loss of control.
